Olay Professional Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System - For purely facial (not body) cleansing, I would choose this device over the Clarisonic even if their prices were reversed. It's more gentle, more inherently ergonomic, and the brush head is small enough to easily clean awkward spots like the very back of your jawline or the edges of your nostrils. (As far as the battery installation issue, I found it took me less than 2 seconds after glancing at the instructions printed on the outside of the box.) So... why is gentle better than a literally-sonic scrub action? If you have acne-prone skin you'll know. Too much abrasion irritates the skin and actually incites more blemishes. Ergo, it's always a battle to figure out how to really clean off makeup (and oil, dirt, etc.) without creating more problems. For me, the Clarisonic, even on the gentlest setting with the sensitive brush head, made things worse not better. (But that's me -- people with different skin issues may have very different experiences.) I didn't start out expecting much from the Olay device, and was delighted to discover I'd rather have this one anyway. Another reviewer mentioned that the Olay device doesn't do "sonic" (jittery) cleansing, but only spins. That was partly why my expectations were low, but I discovered I really can't see the difference -- I only know that the Olay is far more comfortable and causes a lot less injury to my face while still getting the makeup really off. I tested it with a long-wear foundation (which, by design, is particularly hard to remove), and started washing my face with both sides of a wet "facial" towelette. While plenty of makeup came off on that, I knew there was plenty more. I wet my face and applied my own creamy, non-exfoliating cleanser, then turned on the Olay device. It was super-lightweight, very very easy to hold and maneuver, and because of its smaller size and gentler action allowed me to use it in places I'd never successfully cleaned with the Clarisonic. Every 20 seconds or so I'd rinse the Olay, with more makeup visibly coming off each time. After that was done I immediately applied my acne-fighting moisturizer, which I think absorbed much better than when I was just cleansing without a device. After a few days I saw a visible difference in clarity -- without changing or adding *any* skincare products other than using the Olay device. So: it cleans well enough to wash away pore-gunk that I was failing at removing before, presumably also creating a more welcoming environment for my anti-acne moisturizer. Again, I'm an adult (mid-30s) with very acne-prone skin, so my experience might not be relevant for people with different skin issues who want or need a more aggressive scrubbing action. For me, the Olay is perfect, does exactly what I need it to do without causing damage by doing more.
